After Google released their real-time search, I decided that I wanted to make a Firefox add-on that allowed you to search real-time with Firefox. I quickly got to work on the search add-on, and published it an hour later.

This Firefox add-on allows you to quickly and painlessly search Google in real-time. As you can see by the image, it’s listed as “experimental” at this point in time, and I have no downloads. Hopefully this will change soon. I came up with this idea after finding Marshall Kirkpatrick‘s post about Steve Rubel‘s bookmarklet. While this add-on was inspired by the bookmarklets, it’s better for a couple of reasons:
- It’s built into the Firefox search. This won’t clutter your bookmarks toolbar.
- Comes with search suggestions from Google, just like the regular Google search field.
- I personally don’t like javascript alerts or prompts, so that’s a benefit for me.
- You can select the search box with Ctrl+K, and change search engines with Alt+Up/Down.
Props to Steve for making the bookmarklet, and props to Marshall for getting my attention. Hopefully everybody enjoys this add-on for Firefox!
